Gen X is Dying – What are you going to do about it?
Recently, Beth Caveness, Pharm.D, and Amy Alphin, Pharm.D, attended the Pharmacy Diversion Awareness Conference in Charlotte where they learned some facts about prescription drug abuse that are impacting our communities.
Here are some basic facts and statistics that are important to share:
– Generation X is dying. Not from disease, but from drug abuse.
– Oxycodone deaths have increased 267% since 2005. That is not a typo. 267% increase in deaths from Oxycodone in the last eight years
– Methamphetamine has a HIGH rate of addiction and a LOW rate of recovery.
If 1,000 dolphins washed up on shore in every state of the country, every year, wouldn’t we do something about it?One way that we can help to combat this epidemic is for you to participate in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on April 26. This day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means to dispose of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for medication abuse. You can bring your expired and no longer needed medications anytime to either one of our locations (Hampstead or Rocky Point) and we will dispose of them for you.
